The settlement, plainly
Most cars offered to us in part-exchange still have finance running. It does not stop you changing car. It just has to be settled as part of the deal.
- How settlement works
- Your finance company gives you, or us, with your permission, the exact amount that clears the agreement today. Usually valid about ten days. It is paid out of the deal, so the old agreement closes properly and you never juggle two.
- Equity
- Worth more than the settlement? The difference is yours, and it works exactly like a deposit on the next car.
- Negative equity
- Settlement higher than the car is worth? It does not end the deal. The shortfall is covered directly, or, subject to the lender agreeing, inside the new agreement. You see both numbers side by side first.
- What to bring
- The settlement figure, or the finance company’s details so we can request it. Plus the V5C, service history and both keys if you have them.
